Empowering Vulnerable Communities through Malaria Awareness Campaigns

In February 2024, SIDAF took a bold step toward addressing malaria, one of Cameroon’s most significant public health challenges, by organizing a community-wide awareness campaign at the Biyem-Assi ACACIA Market in Yaoundé. The event focused on educating vulnerable populations, including pregnant women, mothers, and local vendors, on recognizing the symptoms of malaria, understanding the differences between simple and severe cases, and identifying proper therapeutic pathways.

Participants learned about the use of Rapid Diagnostic Tests (RDTs) and preventative measures such as using insecticide-treated mosquito nets and environmental management. Over 120 individuals were directly reached, with communication materials provided to further amplify the campaign’s message. This initiative not only improved health literacy but also fostered a stronger sense of community responsibility in the fight against malaria.
