Advocacy Dinner Catalyzes Bold Commitments for Public Health in Cameroon

On January 23, 2025, a landmark advocacy dinner brought together key stakeholders in Yaoundé to advance public health priorities in Cameroon. Hosted at the Institute of Advanced Studies on Territorial Governance and Decentralization, the event united parliamentarians, decentralized local government officials, civil society organizations (CSOs), and technical and financial partners to foster dialogue on achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and FP2030 goals.

The evening featured insightful discussions on increasing health budget allocations to meet the 15% target set by the Abuja Declaration, integrating family planning into health policies, and adopting the UHC law. Experts provided key presentations on financing mechanisms and the local benefits of prioritizing public health.

Notable outcomes included formal commitments from policymakers to advocate for increased health investments, sealed advocacy letters submitted to the Presidency and Parliament, and a shared action plan to strengthen health equity nationwide.

This event, spearheaded by SIDAF, COFIS-CSU, and REMCESS, with support from FP2030, reaffirmed the importance of collective efforts in addressing public health challenges and underscored the power of collaboration between government and non-state actors.
