Advocating for Universal Health Coverage and Family Planning in Cameroon

In November 2024, SIDAF collaborated with COFIS-CSU to organize a three-day workshop at the International Craft Center in Yaoundé, aimed at strengthening the capacity of 30 Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) to advocate for health policy improvements. The training focused on integrating family planning into the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) agenda in Cameroon.

The workshop covered crucial topics such as health financing challenges, effective advocacy techniques, and communication strategies tailored to influence policymakers. Expert facilitators from the Ministry of Public Health, WHO, and GIZ provided insights into the current state of UHC implementation and the need for targeted resource allocation to meet the health needs of underserved populations, particularly women and adolescents.

Key outcomes of the workshop included the formation of a working group to develop a specific advocacy agenda, the identification of communication channels for policy engagement, and the development of tailored messages for various stakeholders. Participants left equipped with actionable skills and a renewed commitment to fostering inclusive healthcare solutions.
